This place is a hidden gem in southeast. I was here two years ago and it was incredibly mediocre, but that's over. Great food with full and interesting vegetarian and seafood menus. Family owned, these guys work their hearts out to ensure a great experience. Last night our group had terrific house margaritas (blended and on the rocks), veg. enchiladas, chicken tortilla soup, veg. Fajitas and a rich and varied vegetarian combo. Give the food trucks a pass, come and hang out in the Frida Kahlo inspired dining room of this lovely family.

I came in here on a whim even though the outside looked a little scummy.
I was the only person here. The service was quick. The bartender made me a fantastic drink!
I was served chips and salsa. The salsa was so good I could have drank it! (I did not, though.)
I ordered one of the seafood dishes( I cant remeber what It was called but it had green olives in It!) It was flavorful and had a bunch of shrimp in it! It came with black beans on the side and they were soft and cooked perfectly, not bland like the usual side of beans.
*nothing was very spicy. Just a tad bit. So it is good for those who cant handle spice. You can ask for it to be spicier.
The menu was big and almost overwhelming but had plenty of options for vegetarian, chicken, pork, beef or seafood.
Most meals are between 12 and 16 dollars and the drinks are around 5 to 9 dollars.
Good food, good price. I do reccomend.
I'll come here again! -

Okay. We have been to this place quite a few times. Before it was decent, close to our home, and so we dealt. Being from the SW makes me a snob when it comes to Mexican food.
Anyway, this particular trip was DISGUSTING. There was a dead tiny fly in my drink, but I am sure it happens, as we live on this earth and so there are bugs. So I just took it out and did not make a big deal of it.
Then came the food. My pollo asada was drenched in sauce (not like I had, had before) the beans were greasy wnd soupy, and my tortillas were dry. My boyfriend got the 2 burrito combo, not only were they DRENCHED in some sauce, it was greasy and extremely unappetizing.
We try not to be rude people, so we just bit the bullet and paid and threw our left overs away. We probably should have said something, but I doubt we will be back again. Such a bummer! -

I should probably preface this review with how I found La Bamba: I googled "the best Piña Colada in Portland." La bamba does not disappoint in that regard. In fact, all of the drinks were delicious. I had nothing but pina coladas, but Paul had the sangria and a margarita, both of which were very good.
What I liked MORE than the drinks was the food and decor, both of which I was willing to give a pass as long as I could get a good frozen drink. When you walk in La Bamba, you may notice that the walls are plastered with good recreations of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo paintings. This combines with the mariachi music to create a nice ambiance. The staff are friendly, and the simple booths have lovely tiles of the style I've seen in Mexico. I love the style of La Bamba. It's simple, it's tasteful, it reminds me of Puerto Vallarta.
Paul orders flautas, which it turns out are flour tortilla taquitos (they're very good). I get enchiladas oaxaqueñas, which are two of their "four famous moles." One is just fine, the other one makes me weep with its beauty.
I like that we came here. I want to go back and try things from the expansive seafood section of their menu (just a warning, it's like 80% shrimp, but I like shrimp). More importantly, I want more of what google claims is Portland's best Piña Colada.
